A male Seton Hall University athlete is being accused of capturing explicit video footage of an alleged raped reported to police by a Seton Hall softball player as a sexual assault, according to the Star Ledger.
The grainy, 12-second video was shot by a Pirates athlete at an off-campus fraternity party, a law enforcement source said. The source could not comment publicly because the investigation into the alleged assault is ongoing.
At least four softball players who attended the off-campus party — including the alleged victim — were subsequently suspended for violating team rules, several people familiar with the investigation told NJ.com. The root of the suspensions was underaged drinking, which sources said was featured prominently at the party. The bans, for three and four games, vary with the player.
There were other softball players at the party who were not suspended because they were 21 or older, sources said.
Seton Hall spokesman Dan Kalmanson said he could not “confirm or deny” the suspensions. Under NCAA rules, the school is not under any obligation to disclose suspensions for violating team rules.
Mr. Kalmanson also refused to comment on whether the athlete who reportedly videoed the incident and distributed the clip was disciplined,
Kalmanson told media outlets that “the sharing of the video is completely unacceptable and contrary to our Catholic mission and our commitment to fostering a healthy academic and social environment for all students.”
