Amar’e Stoudemire is an eccentric dude, so the reasoning behind his wine bath shouldn’t be a surprise.
Stoudemire posted a photo to social media that showed him relaxing in a wine bath. Stoudemire attributed the Merlot bath to therapy that helps with circulation i your body.
It’s reportedly popular among runners and other athletes.
According to Dr. Lewis Maharam, a sports medicine specialist in New York, there’s no scientific evidence that the popular wine therapy even works.
Maharam believes the vinotherapy may have a positive psychological effect.
“There’s no downside to it so I don’t have a problem with them doing,” Maharam said. “But I don’t recommend it because I don’t know that it works or really doesn’t work … until I see hard evidence published in a real journal that has been scrutinized before the research gets published I’m skeptical.”
“It’s like you know when athlete does it and they hear about it and they say it’s good … a word-of-mouth type of thing,” he said, adding Stoudemire is the first pro basketball player he’s seen publicly admit to trying it.
It looks like Stoudemire is simply enjoying the perks of being rich.
