The Scaramento Kings refuse to go quietly into the night as far as NBA spotlight is concerned. Just a few days after reports began to surface that the franchise was considering shutting down All-Star Center DeMarcus Cousins for the remainder of the 2014-2015 season, the Kings have apparently moved swiftly on finding someone to replace those minutes. The Kings are set to offer a 10-day callup to 7″5 center, Sim Bhullar. The Canadian born, Bhullar, would be the first player of Indian descent to make an appearance in an NBA game, making this an historical moment for the future globalization of basketball. There is no coincidence that Bhullar would be given a chance by the Kings, who’s owner is also of Indian descent. The Kings owner, Vivek Randive has been trying to make the franchise relevant since he purchased the team in 2013, but the Kings have seen marginal on-the-court success since he has been the owner. At the end of the day, this is a business, and I’m sure Sim Bhullar will put more fans in the seats over the next 2 weeks of the Kings season. And it’s not like Bhullar hasn’t earned this opportunity after averaging 10.3 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 3.9 blocks per game for the Kings’ D-League affiliate, Reno Bighorns.
