In Game 3 of the NBA Finals, Matthew Dellavedova scored 20 points and made it difficult for Steph Curry to hit his shots. After that game, the social media and sports world blew Delly and his skills way out of proportion and it got under a few of the Warriors skins.
Sources told CBS that many Warrior players were “pissed off and irked” at the media painting a picture of Delly being a great defender for locking down Steph Curry in one game. Sources also told CBS that Curry was annoyed by the attention Delly got.
Andrew Bogut of the Warriors had interesting words about the situation.
“People have lit a fire under Steph, which is good thing,” Andrew Bogut told NEOMG. “It’s something that you don’t want to do. It worked out well. We know Delly is a great defender, but we know he’s not a Curry stopper.”
Harrison Barnes also had some thing to add.
“From the sense of where it’s ‘Oh, he’s locking up Steph’ or ‘he’s shutting him down’ or ‘he’s killing him.’ Stuff like that,” [Harrison] Barnes said to NEOMG. “That’s when it’s kind of like, ‘OK, let’s reevaluate this. Lets look at how we’re playing him. Are we doing what we’re supposed to? Are we letting him have his way or is he really scoring these baskets?’ In Game 4, that was a point of emphasis for us. Lets make him work.”
Whether Steph was realy annoyed or not, he stepped up big in Game 4 and hopes to continue that kind of play for the remainder of the season.
