In an era where sequels are the norm, some blasts from the pasts simply don’t need a part 2 and according to Space Jam director Joe Pytka, Space Jam is one of them.
The part-basketball, part-cartoon follow-up has been slated for the big screen with Justin Lin at the helm to direct the action. Pytka who directed the original film, with Michael Jordan in the starring role, says the follow is “doomed.”
Speaking to Hollywood Reporter, had this to say about the upcoming sequal,
When we did Space Jam, there was a perfect storm of players and ex-players available — Larry Bird, Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing. They all had a persona that complemented the film. There are none around like that now.”
With all due respect to Mr. Pytka with regards to casting, Shaq would be pretty fun as part of the ensemble cast. Perhaps place Steph Curry and LeBron James on the rock. Heck maybe a little Rasheed Wallace for spice and angst. The public is eating up anything that contains Steph Curry these days.
Riley Curry would make a pretty funny character as well. Still no word on who will be cast in the starring role but odds on, look for LeBron James to head up the cast.
