All-Star Weekend was a bit of a dud this year. There were a few bright spots like the 3 point contest followed by the Sager Shootout and the Skills Challenge but other than that it wasn’t too hot.
The dunk contest was a HUGE disappointment and the main event of it all, the All-Star game was underwhelming.
The final score ending up being 192-182 with Anthony Davis scoring 52, Westbrook 41 and Antetokounmpo scoring 30. There wasn’t any defense and once Durant threw the alley-oop to Westbrook, the game just wasn’t interesting.
Typically, there is no defense but they usually lock it down in the 4th quarter and we the intensity but because we didn’t get that this year, Adam Silver has a new game plan for the 2018 All Star game.
ESPN reports while Adam Silver was speaking on a panel with FiveThirtyEight’s Nate Silver at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference, he mentioned that Chris Paul, the NBPA President, called him and said this needed to be fixed.
He elaborated more on that,
“I just think this is one where we just have to reset,” Silver continued. “Chris’ suggestion was let’s get back with maybe the same group we negotiated the collective bargaining — Michael Jordan on the owners’ side, Jeanie Buss, Wyc Grousbeck, James Jones, Kyle Korver and LeBron [James] and others — let’s all get back together and figure out a way to do this.”
He and Paul were throwing around some ideas as to how they can go about this.
