Darren Bowie, who played for the Iowa State Cyclones in 2016-17 and Joseph McClain, who played for Northern Illinois Huskies were both involved in an altercation on Saturday where they were stabbed at a night club in Romania where they play professionally for the team ACS Cuza Brailizia.
Reports coming from Romania suggest that it was “several members of a gang” who attacked the two American players, though those reports are unclear at this time. Authorities in Romania have arrested a suspect in the incident named Gabriel Husein, and he is being held by local police. Prosecutors investigating the case have asked for a 30-day arrest warrant and charged the man with attempted murder.
Bowie suffered multiple stab wounds in the incident and has since been transported to a larger hospital in Bucharest. McClain suffered chest and stomach stab wounds, and is said to be “stable” and in intensive care. Hopefully both players have a speedy recovery and can get back to full health sooner rather than later.
