The drama continues in Minnesota. After Jimmy Butler made it known yesterday that the three teams he has his eyes on to be traded to are the Nets, Knicks and Clippers, Head Coach Tom Thibodeau could be on his way out before that trade happens.
According to Sean Deveney of Sporting News, Thibodeau says that he does not want to trade Butler and that he’d rather leave the team instead.
“No one expects Tom to coach a 25-win or even 35-win team,” said an NBA front-office exec. “Even if he has to agree to dissolve the contract, they’d do that before they go and trade Butler for draft picks.”
Thibodeau works in the front office for the Timberwolves so he has control on if Butler goes or not. He obviously wants to coach a contender and Minnesota simply won’t be that without Butler. They barely made the playoffs last year as an eighth seed for the first time since 2004 with Butler, Andrew Wiggins and Karl Anthony-Towns in the starting lineup.
