At first, we thought the fight was going to end soon after Terence Crawford knocked Amir Khan down in the first round but Khan was saved by the bell and continued to box.
The fight never got to the full 12 rounds though. Official called the fight after Crawford hit Khan, what it seemed at first, below the belt. After replay, it looked more like a shot to the thigh more than a “low blow” but Khan insisted that Crawford hit him in the balls.
Now many are wondering if Khan just used that opportunity to quit the fight and run away with $5 million.
“You quit – shot in ya leg?!” Crawford asked Khan during the postfight conference.
“In my leg? You hit my balls!” Khan replied and Crawford laughed.
Khan became irritated with the interrogation from Crawford, his team and the media.
“If you guys think I quit – no problem. I never quit.”
At the postfight conference, it was said numerous of times that Virgil Hunter, Khan’s trainer, called the fight.
Hunter did but told Sports Illustrated it was after he asked Khan did he want to keep fighting. Per reports, Khan asked Khan could he continue and Khan’s reply was “no.”
Would this be considered quitting? Was he really in that much pain from the low blow that looked more of a punch to the leg? If Khan was really in it for a quick check, why not stay down in the first round when he was knocked down? Why wait until the 6th round?
What makes matters worse is that it was a good fight. Every round was exciting and Khan actually came back from the first round tumble. This could of been a full 12 round fight that could of came to a split decision.
