It’s been about 7 months since COVID-19 has affected the US and it hasn’t gotten any better. People in the US, for the most part, haven’t taken this virus seriously at all.
We have to have mayors and governors go on TV and beg people not to have parties and that doesn’t even work.
New Jersey has been one of the places that was hit the hardest but that doesn’t seem to matter to the people who threw a party at an AirBnb.
According to Daily Mail, the party happened at a Jackson Township mansion which cost $795 a night and the owner, Yaakov Weiss, knew he was renting it out for a party thrown by Patience Guanue and Alicia Hannah. The party was supposed to be a Liberian Independence Day party and plenty of people showed up to celebrate.
Weiss said he left the party when there were about 200 people there. A lot more people showed up after. 500 more to be exact. Although an IG post said there were 1500 people who attended. The police received multiple 911 calls about the party that had 700 people attending and contacted Weiss about it.
The party took 5 hours to break up the party.
New Jersey currently has COVID-19 social distancing rules in place so the party was illegal and Weiss, Guanue, and Hinneh were all arrested for breaking the law.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy wasn’t too pleased with the party either because he made a statement about it saying
‘C’mon folks! C’mon! By the way putting the health of police at risk here as well.’
‘These are overwhelmingly gatherings of young people…but there is a big concern that a young person can get it and go home or go visit grandma and grandpa and pass this on unwillingly,’
I would say people probably won’t be throwing any more parties but it’s pretty clear there are still a lot of people who don’t care about this virus.
