One former St. Louis officer is one to prison for a long time, after beating down a Black man, who was also a cop, that was undercover. According to the St. Louis Dispatch, Randy Hays has been sentenced to four years in prison, as this incident went down at a September 2017 protest.
The Black man who was beat down has been IDed as Luther Hall. Injuries that he reportedly suffered were a concussion, hole in his lip that resulted in stitches, a bruised tail bone, a rotator cuff tear. This was all caused by a baton that Hays used to inflict these injuries.
Hall has since issued a statement about the incident, as he still remembers this traumatizing incident vividly.
“I feel the same helplessness I felt the night of the assault, as I laid on the ground being beaten in the head, neck, and torso. The days I can’t sleep, I lay in bed in the dark, and all I hear is the sound of my camera impacting the ground and voices of people yelling commands at me.”
Hall ended up receiving a $5 million settlement, in February 2021. Lawyers stated that race was a factor, in Hall getting beat down by Hays. Hall needed three surgeries to recover, as two other officers are being sentenced for their involvement in this incident.
