One can not take law enforcement’s words as fact.
We know they have the capacity to lie and some of this police report makes Richard Sherman seems like he is superhuman, with that being said it is clear he was going through some sort of mental breakdown and maybe the cops were the right people to initially deploy to handle the situation.
I truly believe it was only Richard Sherman being a celebrity that saved him from not being murdered.
It appears he was ready for it to happen.
From a previous report and the 911 calls, we know that Sherman was suicidal and that his wife begged the cops not to kill him. Sherman had been drinking heavily and left his home en route to his wife’s parents house. He crashed his car on the way there and then proceeded on foot.
The new police report that BSO has obtained fills in the gap from there.
According to the cops Sherman had made it clear to law enforcement that he was ready to commit suicide by cop and any attempts to apprehend him would lead to him fighting to the death. He also threatened to take an officer’s weapon if they tried to arrest him.
When he arrived at his father-in-law’s house he was hit with bear mace which according to the cops did little to stop him.
When the cops arrived he was shirtless and according to them his muscular physique and the way he was flexing his muscles they felt in fear of their life. Thankfully, because he was Richard Sherman they didn’t just shot him, they wanted to use non-lethal methods but was afraid the mace mixed with a taser would cause Sherman to burst into flames.
The cops said that Sherman repeatedly told them he would not be arrested and had already physically assaulted several officers who tried.
When all else failed they released the dog on him and even that didn’t help. They had to release the dog multiple times before they were able to subdue Sherman.
It is quite a wild read and there was some legitimate fear this could have turned out deadly especially now knowing that Sherman’s Father-in-Law had a firearm and Sherman appeared ready to die at that moment.
Sherman has been released from custody and his charges have been downgraded to misdemeanors. He likely won’t spend any time in jail and hopefully, he will get the helps he needs.
Richard Sherman was released on conditions, he was not held on bail. He has to return to court when requested, can't use drugs or alcohol, can't possess firearms and has a no contact order with regard to his father in law.

State is not asking for a burglary charge against Richard Sherman. It downgraded booking to a charge of criminal trespass which is a misdemeanor. He faces 1 count of these misdemeanors: criminal trespass (domestic violence designation), malicious mischief, DUI & resisting arrest

Hopefully now that Richard Sherman faces only misdemeanors & since he has no criminal history, he will strike a deal, & get the treatment he needs. It would be rare for him to see any jail time out of this. This will be probation with conditions, community service & a program

A very scary situation, but possibly it is what saves Richard Sherman’s life.
Hopefully, it is the wakeup call he needs.
