If you attack someone with a hatchet, you can’t be too mad if they shoot you to death.
The shooter had bad aim, though, and ended up shooting John Wes Townley’s ex-wife as well.
The shooting death of John Wes Townley was a result of “an altercation” in the Athens Five Points area on Saturday between Townley and a 32-year-old man from Dunwoody, according to Athens-Clarke County police.
Townley, 31, arrived with a hatchet at 240 Morton Ave., where his ex-wife, Laura Townley, and Zachary Anderson occupied the residence, police said.
Townley “attacked Mr. Anderson and Ms. Townley with a hatchet,” the police report said, “and Mr. Anderson fired several shots from his gun.”
John Wes didn’t make it, but his ex-wife is expected to survive.
Here is a random note.
Townley’s father, Tony, is the co-founder of the Athens-based chicken chain Zaxby’s.
