I don’t know why Ja Morant feels he has to portray this image of a thug.
It isn’t what someone many people look up to wants to see. He is one of the young faces of the NBA, and this isn’t the first time someone has accused Morant or his crew of flashing guns.
Bleacher Report has info on the latest incidents.
Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant has been accused of punching and flashing a gun at a 17-year-old and threatening a mall security guard.
In police records obtained by Molly Hensley-Clancy of the Washington Post, Morant was accused of punching the teen “12-13 times” during a pickup basketball game at the 23-year-old’s house last summer.
According to interviews conducted by Shelby County Sheriff’s Office detectives obtained by Hensley-Clancy, the teenager said Morant went into his house after hitting him and “re-emerged with a gun visible in the waistband of his pants and his hand on the weapon.”
A few days before the alleged assault, the head of security at a Memphis mall told police he was “threatened” by Morant in the parking lot and a member of Morant’s group shoved him in the head.
One of Morant’s close friends recently was banned from the arena because they were accused of pointing laser sight guns at Pacers players.
The two members of the traveling party who spoke to The Athletic said that they did not see who shined the laser from the SUV. They also don’t know if the laser was attached to a gun, but they believed it was. A Pacers security guard in the loading area at the time remarked: “That’s 100 percent a gun.”
According to the sources, the remarks directed at them by Pack and others included: “Come get some of this” and “you don’t know how we roll” and “I’ll show you what I got.” .
The verbal sparring continued intermittently for approximately 15 to 20 minutes, until Morant entered the loading area. He, Pack and the others dispersed into two vehicles. Morant, Pack and one other person got into an SUV, sources said. The first vehicle turned toward the bus before exiting up a ramp and out of the arena’s loading area. The SUV moved toward the Pacers bus, turned, slowed, and that was when members of the Pacers traveling party noticed a red laser coming from the car and being trained on players, coaches and others.
Morant has claimed the entire thing was a lie and he was protecting himself against the 17-year-old.
