Jimmy Garoppolo won’t be playing for the Raiders in Week 4 as he continues to recuperate from a concussion, the team confirmed on Saturday.
With Garoppolo still in the concussion protocol after being examined for the ailment after Week 3, Las Vegas will either play 16-year veteran Brian Hoyer or rookie QB Aidan O’Connell against the Chargers.
At the time of publication, the team had not yet made its choice public.

Garoppolo participated fully in Sunday’s 23-18 loss to the Steelers, but his health was soon called into doubt when he failed to show up for the post-game evaluation. Las Vegas then added him to the protocol on Monday, but the 31-year-old was still able to participate in two limited sessions after missing Wednesday.
The Raiders (1-2) will now face the Justin Herbert-led Chargers (1-2) in Los Angeles with either Hoyer or O’Connell, a fourth-round rookie out of Purdue, at quarterback as Garoppolo continues to make progress in his recovery.
While Hoyer is in his first season with the Raiders, like Jimmy G, he is more accustomed to the system thanks to his two stints playing for the Patriots while Josh McDaniels was their head coach. Over the course of 77 games (40 starts), the 37-year-old journeyman has accumulated 10,688 yards, 53 touchdowns, and 35 interceptions.
