Following their team’s playoff elimination, former franchise quarterback Baker Mayfield is moving on. This year, Baker Mayfield placed a wager on himself, and he’s winning.
Baker Mayfield, the quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, went from being the first overall choice in 2018 to a never-ending battle to establish himself as a starting quarterback before settling in Tampa and proving he could play.
With a 9-8 record going into the wild card round against the No. 5 Eagles, the Buccaneers, ranked fourth, faced the latter team with an 11-6 record.
Despite the fact that the Eagles have dropped five of their previous six games and the Bucs have won five, many predicted that the NFC East team would move on.
Baker, who gave a brilliant effort to lead his team to a resounding victory and advance to the divisional round, had other ambitions. Emily Mayfield, his wife, has been by his side the entire time. Emily Mayfield called out the doubters and expressed her pride in her husband for his performance against the Philadelphia Eagles in her most recent Instagram Story, which she shared following Monday’s Wild Card game.
“The smile is everything,” Emily wrote in response to a post about Mayfield’s game-day stats.
“So much adversity. So many naysayers. People wanting him to fail. He hasn’t stopped working, he never stopped believing … I am SO proud of him.
‘”Onto the next one, @buccaneers.”
In Tampa’s 32-9 victory, Mayfield completed 22 of 36 passes for 337 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions.
