Speaking about A.J. Brown‘s leadership abilities was offensive tackle Jordan Mailata of the Philadelphia Eagles. The importance of wide receiver A.J. Brown for the Philadelphia Eagles has been the subject of much discussion lately, but offensive tackle Jordan Mailata believes that the discussion is exaggerated.
“We had a whole team, escape room thing just to build camaraderie,” “That was A.J. All this talk about A.J. not being leader…you guys don’t know him like we do. He’s a great leader.”
Although Brown has been insistent that his refusal to speak with the media has nothing to do with them, he has recently started to reduce his availability to the media following games.
Both Brown and the Eagles have had ups and downs this season. In the early going of the season, when the club was winning almost every game, he broke Calvin Johnson’s record for the most straight games with at least 125 receiving yards.
Only once, in a lopsided defeat to the San Francisco 49ers, has Brown exceeded 100 receiving yards in a game in his last seven games, going all the way back to the Chiefs game. He has also only scored one touchdown throughout that time. Compared to his first nine games of the season, when he caught six touchdowns and had over 100 receiving yards in six of them, he has witnessed a significant decline in performance.
This season, Brown has caught 105 catches for 1,447 yards and seven touchdowns on 157 targets. He needs just 50 yards to shatter the franchise mark for the most receiving yards in a single season, which he set on just 88 receptions the previous year.
