Andy Reid. It’s the name on everyone’s lips as latest news of his renewal make noise. Not just the players make up the Kansas City Chiefs‘ championship core; front office staff and coaches have made significant contributions as well. The group leader seems to be in line for a contract extension, as three of Andy Reid‘s employees have already signed deals this offseason.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported on Monday morning that Reid and the Chiefs are “expected to begin” extension talks shortly. According to sources close to Pelissero, Reid would become “the highest-paid coach in football” with his new contract.
Retirement can wait: Coming off back-to-back Super Bowl wins, the #Chiefs and Andy Reid are expected to begin negotiations in the coming weeks on a new contract that NFL sources believe should soon make Reid the highest-paid coach in football. https://t.co/H6ShbNMHFG

According to Pelissero’s piece, in terms of yearly average income, Reid is “believed to rank roughly eighth” among all head coaches.
Although the 65-year-old’s contract remains private, Pelissero reports that a number of head coaches in the league may be earning $15 million or more annually from their contracts. That makes Reid, who may be the finest in his field right now, undervalued and more than worthy of a new contract.
It also increases the likelihood that Reid will return to lead the Chiefs to victory. Before Super Bowl LVIII, there had been some rumors that the future Hall of Fame head coach will retire. He addressed that after the big game victory:
“You know, Adam (Teicher), I honestly haven’t even thought about it,” Reid said. “But I get asked it. I’m still kind of in awe of the game and what went on there, so I really haven’t thought [about] why or what or anything else but people keep asking me. I keep saying, ‘Why did (Bill) Belichick and Pete (Carroll) retire? Ask those old guys the question. I’m the old guy now, so I guess I’m going to be asked that. I really haven’t gone there, I haven’t really thought about it.”
It’s not just Reid who could be facing a lengthy prison sentence. Brett Veach, the general manager, is another contender, says Pelissero.
