The rookie for the Miami Heat, Jaime Jaquez Jr., recently talked about his experience competing during All-Star Weekend.
Rookie Jaime Jaquez Jr. of the Miami Heat had the opportunity to participate in two All-Star Weekend competitions, but neither one went well for him.
Heat guard Alondes Williams was among the players that eliminated Jaquez’s team in the first round of the Panini Rising Stars. Meanwhile, uproar erupted nationwide over the AT&T Slam Dunk Contest.
Jaime Jaquez Jr. not satisfied with Judges
Jacob Toppin of the New York Knicks and Jaquez were both ousted in the first round. A lot of people thought that by selecting Boston Celtics player Jaylen Brown over Jaquez or Toppin, the judges made a mistake.
The rookie Heat player was asked if he agreed with the critical opinions expressed on social media regarding the judges’ rulings. Jaquez said,
“Yeah, like, I don’t know. Let me pick my words carefully. I would’ve went some other way with some choices, but it’s not up to me,” “It’s up to the judges, so they had their guy. They had their pick, but I think after this, I’m retiring from dunking.”
When talking about the NBA’s choice of city, the former UCLA Bruin said that the highlight of the weekend was touring Indianapolis while adding a lighthearted touch. Jaquez said,
“I’d describe it as a very busy, hectic, eventful weekend, so there was a lot of great things running around the city of Indianapolis,” “I wish they would’ve picked a little warmer city, but you can’t complain when you’re having fun.”
