Brian Baldinger of the NFL Network released a bombshell on Sean Payton, shedding light on his previous mistakes and their implications for the league. Baldinger claimed that a ‘no’ to Patrick Mahomes had far-reaching consequences for the football coach, citing Payton’s previous decisions and the Denver Broncos’ quarterback choices.
Sean Payton, former head coach of the New Orleans Saints, had the opportunity to choose Patrick Mahomes seven years ago.
While what happened next is self-explanatory, Baldinger noted that if Payton had taken advantage of that opportunity, he might not be in Denver today. In an open chat on the DNVR Sports Podcast, Baldinger revealed
“Well Sean Payton wouldn’t even be there in Denver, if you know, back seven years ago he drafted Patrick Mahomes, you know when he was sitting there at 11.”
Furthermore, with Mahomes likely leading the Saints, Baldinger suggests:
“They probably would have a couple more Super Bowls too.”
As the 2024 NFL Draft approaches, veteran Sean Payton’s history comes back to haunt him. As head coach of the New Orleans Saints in 2017, Payton was on the verge of picking Patrick Mahomes, the now-legendary quarterback. Even still, despite Mahomes’ abilities, some questioned his potential back then. The Kansas City Chiefs swooped in and caught him before the Saints could. Payton is now in Denver, where the quarterback dilemma needs to be answered in April.
