With O.J. Simpson in the rear, the Ford Bronco owner who took Los Angeles police on a ninety-minute slow-speed pursuit has been seen after Simpson’s passing.
The LAPD has been looking for Bills legend Simpson for decades in connection with the deaths of his ex-wife Nicole Brown and her friend Ron Goldman. Simpson passed away today after a fight with illness.
Two days later, on June 12, 1994, O.J. led the police in a low-speed, ninety-minute automobile chase in his friend Al Cowling’s white Ford Bronco.
The Iconic car chase with Cowlings and O.J. Simpson
With a gun to Cowlings’ head, the former NFL great huddled in the back seat, pursued by law enforcement, the media, and fans. Following Simpson’s passing on Thursday, Cowlings, 76, was photographed in Malibu. He appeared dejected and held a tissue.
Additionally, Cowlings was spotted driving a Ford pickup, exactly as he did in 1994.
Simpson’s childhood pal Cowlings was first taken into custody with the NFL player after the pursuit came to an end at Simpson’s Brentwood residence. In a civil lawsuit filed against Simpson for wrongful death, Cowlings was called upon following Simpson’s acquittal of Brown and Goldman’s murders.
According to reports at the time, Cowlings admitted to the court that he had driven Brown to the hospital following an altercation with Simpson in 1989. His evidence and behavior throughout the trial were in contrast to Simpson’s, who appeared upbeat, and Cowlings, who sobbed after viewing images of Brown.
From Disneyland to Los Angeles, traffic was completely stopped during their notorious police pursuit. The Sunset Strip in West Hollywood was empty as locals flocked to their TVs to witness the pursuit. On the 5 Freeway in Orange County, patrol police saw O.J. sobbing while clutching a.357 magnum to his head in the back seat of the Bronco.
