Concerns have been raised by recent training videos of Mike Tyson as he prepares for his next fight with Jake Paul. The bout was approved as a professional event last week, paving the way for Tyson and the considerably younger Paul to square off in the heavyweight division.
The two will square off in eight two-minute rounds of sparring, with the duo donning 14-ounce gloves—unusual for these kinds of contests, which usually call for 10-ounce gloves.
Since Tyson is nearly thirty years older than Paul—58 at the time of the fight—his fans are worried about his health.
Although he has released a few of training videos showcasing his renowned quickness and strong punches, some have noted that these are rather short.
In other cases, fans have even conjectured about possible editing in the video.
“Edits go hard lol,”
“The camera is doing its job too.”
Joe Rogan’s talks about the intensity of Tyson’s training
Concerns were raised when Tyson acknowledged that he had to stay in bed for a week following an exceptionally taxing training session. Joe Rogan, a commentator, also mentioned how hard Tyson trains. Rogans said,
“When I was watching you hit the pads, I was thinking, ‘This isn’t just working out’,”
“There was something going on man. When you were working out with [trainer Rafael] Cordero and you were ripping into the body and throwing those hooks, I was like, ‘This is a man who is preparing to go to combat. That’s why, when I saw the video, I was like..”
With the bout set for July 20 in Dallas, Texas, Tyson will have an additional two months to train. Paul is also in the midst of training, though he hasn’t disclosed as much of it online.
