A person’s heart is at home. For the Dallas Cowboys, however, home has been a nightmare thus far in 2024. Unrelenting rumors that head coach Mike McCarthy should be fired have only intensified following Sunday’s 47-9 thrashing of the Lions. He already has a strong candidate for the position.
Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports stated after Dallas’ humiliating performance that “many around the [NFL]” think Dallas should sign Bill Belichick this offseason if McCarthy is unable to improve the situation. Jones, though, seemed content with McCarthy in charge. No matter how bad he is at it.
While owner Jerry Jones remains committed to Mike McCarthy, many around the league wonder if Dallas could become the primary landing spot for Bill Belichick this offseason, should the #Cowboys decide to make a change. Will Jerry Jones pull the trigger for Bill Belichick ?
Jerry Jones described their loss as “a shocker,” “very humbling,” and “very concerning.” He informed reporters that he is “not considering” sacking the head coach. Jones’ squad was primed to build on a hard-fought road win against the Pittsburgh Steelers going into Week 6. Instead, they suffered a crushing defeat on their home field for the third time in a row.
After losing 47-9 to the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Dallas’ home point difference now stands at minus-66. They have given up 41.8 points per game in their last four home games, dating back to their 2023 wild-card loss.
After leaving the New England Patriots organization in January, Belichick stepped into a variety of sports media positions, and he might be the person they need in Dallas. But who knows if that will ever come to pass given Jones’s incapacity to make sound judgments?
