The NBA schedule makers are apparently sitting in a dark room surrounded by coffee cups, stress balls, and giant calendars waiting for one man to make up his mind. That man, of course, is LeBron James.
According to NBA commissioner Adam Silver, the league can’t even lock in the 2026-27 schedule until King James decides where he’ll be playing next season. Forget trade rumors, forget expansion teams, forget arena availability. Apparently the entire basketball universe is now operating on LeBron Standard Time.
Adam Silver on LeBron’s free agency decision:
“I would like him to make his announcement already, so he can finish the schedule. Because as you might imagine, the teams are calling us, the networks are calling us, and everybody wants to lock in the schedule. But it will… pic.twitter.com/ykVEoKv7B8

Imagine being the employee in charge of scheduling.
“We have to finish up the schedule and where LeBron plays affects the schedule… It will influence how we set the schedule — opening week, Christmas,” Silver said. “So I need him to make a decision.”
James has seemingly kept his free agency decision within a small circle this offseason, but several reports have given an indication of where he’s at in the process.
Chris Haynes of NBA on Prime reported earlier this week that James’ agent, Rich Paul, said the four-time MVP has “all the information needed” to make a decision. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on the Pat McAfee Show on Thursday that James “is getting closer and closer to making a decision.”

At this point, LeBron’s free agency decision has become less of a basketball move and more of a global event. Somewhere, television executives are refreshing their phones every second.
Even Adam Silver sounds like a man waiting for test results.
The commissioner basically admitted that the NBA schedule is being held hostage by a 41-year-old superstar who still refuses to age like a normal human being.
