Jalen Brunson and Tyrese Haliburton reignited their WWE rivalry Saturday night at Madison Square Garden, turning a celebratory appearance by the Knicks star into another chapter of their long-running basketball-and-wrestling feud.
Brunson, the 2026 NBA Finals MVP who led the New York Knicks to their first championship in 53 years, appeared in the main event segment of WWE’s Saturday Night’s Main Event. World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns presented the Knicks point guard with a customized WWE title belt, praising him as a fellow champion in the “world’s most famous arena.”
“This is where greatness acknowledges greatness,” Reigns said, according to reports from the show. The two stood side by side holding gold as the MSG crowd roared. Reigns then delivered his signature line: “New York City — acknowledge us.”
The moment of mutual respect did not last.
Seth Rollins’ music hit. Instead of Rollins alone, Haliburton — the Indiana Pacers star and Brunson’s frequent postseason foil — strode toward the ring carrying a steel chair. Rollins attacked Reigns from behind. Haliburton slid the chair into the ring, and Rollins positioned Reigns for a curb stomp onto the weapon.

Brunson, wearing a brace on his left wrist after recent surgery, stepped in and blocked Rollins’ path. The brief confrontation created enough of an opening for Reigns to recover with a Superman Punch and a Spear, sending Rollins and Haliburton packing. Haliburton never entered the ring.
The segment closed with the Larry O’Brien Trophy brought into the ring. Brunson held the custom WWE belt while allowing Reigns to hoist the NBA championship trophy, creating a memorable photo opportunity that blended the two worlds.
The confrontation marked the latest chapter in a crossover rivalry that began two years earlier. On the June 28, 2024, episode of SmackDown — also at Madison Square Garden — Haliburton sided with Logan Paul shortly after the Pacers eliminated the Knicks in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Brunson, sitting ringside, jumped the barricade to stop Haliburton from handing Paul a pair of brass knuckles during a triple-threat match. After the match, Brunson entered the ring with a steel chair to back up LA Knight as Paul and Haliburton retreated.

Haliburton’s parting words that night: “I’ll be back.”
The two have crossed paths on WWE programming and in the NBA playoffs multiple times since. Their teams met again in the 2025 Eastern Conference finals, and both players have embraced their wrestling fandom publicly. Haliburton has appeared on WWE shows, featured in WWE 2K video games, and attended major events. Brunson has drawn strong reactions whenever shown on WWE television in New York.
Neither player was in position for full physical involvement Saturday. Brunson underwent surgery earlier this month on his left wrist after playing through the injury during the Knicks’ championship run. He is expected to resume basketball activities later this summer and be ready for the 2026-27 season. Sources indicated WWE scaled back earlier creative ideas involving Brunson due to the wrist restriction.
Haliburton missed the entire 2025-26 NBA season after tearing his Achilles in Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals. He has remained active in the WWE world during his recovery, including attending WrestleMania and other events.
A formal in-ring match between the two remains highly unlikely without clearance from their respective NBA teams. Both have expressed appreciation for the crossover opportunities while prioritizing their basketball careers.
