I actually don’t mind Oscar fighting Mayweather, it would be a huge event and Mayweather can’t physically hurt him. Mayweather would win easily, but he couldn’t hurt him. Mayweather only sees $$$ so he knows if he is going for his 50th win Oscar is easy money (and a lot of money would be made).
If he fights GGG , he might get hurt and no one wants to see a 42-year-old Oscar De La Hoya put his health at risk, but he tells ESPN he is thinking about a comeback.
“It’s got to be worth my while but this is very serious,” De La Hoya told ESPN.com on Monday. “I have to make sure I am fighting the very best. I don’t have to come back for financial reasons or the lights or the glamour. The only reason I would come back is because I miss the competition of fighting the very best.”
He said that if he does return, his goal would be to face either pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather, who beat him by split decision in 2007 in what was the biggest money fight in boxing history at the time, in a rematch or to face middleweight titleholder Gennady Golovkin in a fight De La Hoya said would have to take place at junior middleweight.
“I want to fight one of them because they are the best and I always fought the best,” De La Hoya said. “That’s what boxing is all about – fighting the best.”
Oscar says he’s been training every day, he doesn’t drink or do drugs anymore and his body feels the best it has in ten years.
Boxers never retire, until they are sort of beaten into retirement. I think Oscar is lying when he says it isn’t about lights and glamour, I think he misses the feel of being the center of attention. It is like pulling a cop off the streets and sticking him behind a desk. It is safer there, but they miss the action.
Don’t be shocked if Mayweather-De La Hoya fight in 2016.
