We all witnessed the horrific knee injury that South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore suffered Saturday against Tennessee.
Reports are that Lattimore dislocated the right knee, but it is something he may be able to return from.
CBSSports.com is reporting that Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier visited with Lattimore several times, and the young running backs spirits are high.
Spurrier also hinted at a possible redshirt season in 2013, and a return for Lattimore during the 2014 season.
“We’re optimistic his football days are ahead of him,” Spurrier said.
Spurrier said he has not talk to Lattimore, who turned 21 today, about his football future.
“He knows what the road ahead is,” said Spurrier, “We’re all hoping and praying he’ll be back.”
“We’ll just go a day at a time and allow the doctors and Marcus and a lot of prayers do their work,” Spurrier said.
I’m not sure what Lattimore’s future holds, as much as I would like to see him return to South Carolina, I feel Lattimore’s days of taking hits for free should be over.
We’ve witnessed Frank Gore and Willis McGahee both return from bad knee injuries to be productive backs.
