Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Advice Week 12

Quarterbacks to Add

Josh McCown, Buccaneers: McCown regained his starting job in Tampa Bay 2 weeks ago and has actually seized his second opportunity as their starting QB. McCown is coming off of 2 straight performances of 19 fantasy points, and has been very successful at getting the ball down the field to the explosive WR combo of Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans.  McCown finds himself in a similar situation to the one that brought him so much success last year in Chicago. Speaking of Chicago, that is the matchup for the Bucs this weekend, and McCown will certainly have some added motivation to play against his former team. If you are a Big Ben or Cam Newton owner and looking for a bye-week replacement, McCown is the perfect option.

Shaun Hill, Rams: The St. Louis Rams made the switch back to Shaun Hill after a few dismal starts from Austin Davis, and the change proved to be beneficial for the Rams offense. Hill passed for 220 yards and 1 TD and more importantly no turnovers. Hill was also able to revitalize Kenny Britt, who finished with a big day. With remaining matchups against Oakland, Washington, and NY; Hill is a perfect 2nd QB for 2 QB leagues. He might not have the explosive games to carry a team, but will be consistently between 10-15 fantasy points.

Running Backs to Add

Jonas Gray, Patriots: Gray comes into week 12 waivers only being owned in 9.8% of ESPN leagues and will certainly be the most sought after name on the wire, after his 43 point fantasy performance on Sunday night. Gray has essentially slotted himself into the “Stevan Ridley” role and will shoulder the majority of the running downs load for the Patriots backfield. The problem as many fantasy owners know with the Patriots is that they change their game plan so frequently so it will be hard to know when they will utilize the pass catching Shane Vereen or the more powerful Gray. Regardless, Gray is the most coveted name on waivers this week and should be owned in all leagues going forward.

Isaiah Crowell, Browns: “As the Browns RBs turn.” Cleveland beat reporters reported just before kickoff that Crowell would be the starter for the game as he has the best week of practice last week. Crowell responded with by far the most of the RB carries of the trio (Crowell 14, West 5, Tate 2). There is just no way to tell how the carry distribution will shake out next week, but in the meantime add Crowell just in case.

Latavius Murray, Raiders: This is a pure speculative add, because we are assuming that at 0-10 the Raiders will be more willing to give the younger players a good look. Darren McFadden had gone 190 straight carries without a run of 20+ yards, and on Murray’s first carry Sunday he ripped off a 23 yard run. I believe that Murray should be added in the majority of leagues, especially by playoff bound teams who are looking depth for those week 13-16 matchups.

Wide Receivers to Add

Kenny Britt, Rams: I think any veteran fantasy player has been burned by Kenny Britt before, but at this point of the season with so few WR options emerging, Britt is by far the most talented player available in the majority of leagues. He has an ownership percentage of just 12.3% in ESPN leagues and is coming off of his best game of the season of 128 yards and a TD, on just 4 catches. Britt will definitely be the biggest beneficiary of the QB change to veteran Shaun Hill who has a strong enough arm to get the ball to Britt down the field. I would not put all my eggs in this basket, as Britt has broken may fantasy hearts before, by you have to be encouraged by the fact that he’s still healthy coming into week 12 of the season.

Kenny Stills, Saints: Stills is technically already a starter in the Saints 3 WR offense, but now with Brandin Cooks slated to miss up to 6 weeks with a broken thumb, Stills is set to see his target share go up. Stills caught 4 passes and a TD last Sunday. For the foreseeable future Stills can be the #1 WR in New Orleans with Marques Colston badly struggling this season. Stills should be added as a plug-n-play option for their home Monday Night game against a beat up Baltimore Ravens Secondary.

Tight Ends to Add

Niles Paul, Redskins: The tight end position has been such a crapshoot in fantasy football this season, but Paul has shined when given the opportunity to play earlier in the season. Now he may be getting that opportunity again with Jordan Reed suffering another hamstring injury in the loss on Sunday. Paul is an athletic TE who was once a former WR at the University of Nebraska, he can definitely stretch the field for this Redskins offense.

Chase Coffman, Titans: The former University of Missouri product finally got his chance to shine on the big stage with a great performance on Monday night football. Coffman caught 3 catches for 32 yards and a TD. The only problem with Coffman is the impending return of Delanie Walker. As long as Walker continues to be out, Coffman is worth and add.

Defense and Special teams to add

Green Bay Packer: Packers defense continues to find a way to turn the opposing team over and they have savvy veterans who know what to do with the ball when they get it. The week 12 matchup against rookie QB Teddy Bridgewater is all of a sudden very appealing.

Indianapolis Colts: Insert D/ST facing the Jaguars
