Police said the victim was hanging outside his house in the 900 block of Bradley Court on Aug. 6 at about 8 p.m. when the classmates rolled up.
Inside the car was Kelly, Christopher Hernandez, 18, and another man, police said. The teen told the trio in the car about his new shoes, went inside to grab them and one-by-one handed them to the people in the car for a closer look.
He asked for his shoes back, but they declined, police said. According to an arrest report, the driver hit the gas, and the teen jumped in the car before it was able to get away.
The teen asked for the classmates to let him out of the car with his shoes, but they threatened to shoot him if he didn’t give up the shoes and hand over his cellphone, the teen told police.
Police said the group tied a pillowcase over the teen’s head as they drove. After a while, they stopped at an apartment complex in the 6200 block of Forest Hill Boulevard.
There, the group beat him repeatedly, according to the report. Finally they threw him into a river and drove off.
They are just shoes.
Michael Kelly and Christopher Hernandez have been charged with a bunch of stuff and are awaiting trial.
