The NBA season is set to start in less than 24 hours. The most interesting matchup of opening night will feature the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Chicago Bulls. Both teams are expected to be very good and compete for a title. The defending champs Golden State Warriors will also be in action as they face off against the New Orleans Pelicans who have a legit super star in Anthony Davis. It doesn’t come as a surprise that gamblers all over are getting their bets in on their favorite teams.
The Cavs and Warriors are on top of the charts when it comes to a strong fan base and amount of bets places. The San Antonio Spurs, Los Angeles Clippers and Chicago Bulls are rightfully in that discussion too but you will never guess who the next team is … The Los Angeles Lakers, but why?
“You get more sharp play on the season wins, betting the Lakers under,” SuperBook assistant manager and NBA oddsmaker Jeff Sherman said, per Purdum. “But then you have the more general public saying, ‘Let me take a shot at 300-1 on them.’ Right now, the Lakers are third in ticket count in the entire NBA. They’ve got more tickets than Cleveland, more than Golden State.”
300-1 payout sound really nice but let’s be real, I respect Kobe and his amazing career but the Lakers are not a champions caliber team. I think if they were in the East they could maybe make a little noise but in the West if they’re lucky they could end up as a 7 or 8 seed. I’ve seen crazier things happen and 300-1 payout is really tempting but I’d take my chances on the Cavs who have 2-1 odds of winning the title. No the payout won’t be extremely great but it’s the more safe bet.
