When I was kid, I grew up in a pretty rough part of the northside of St. Louis. This was WAY before smart phones and social media was even thought about, so Twitter fingers didn’t exist back then.
My uncle told me something I always remembered.
“If you call someone a bitch, be prepared to be shot.”
He specifically said SHOT, not punched, it was that serious. So, I was very careful about how I addressed people, because in my mind there are levels of disrespect when calling someone out of their name.
These days thanks to social media people can say all type of crazy stuff from the comfortable of their homes and not worry about the consequences.
In sports, there are certain unwritten rules when it comes to trash talk. In general families and love ones are off-limits and everything else is fair game. Calling someone a bitch while playing NBA is a little different from calling someone a bitch in the streets. There is still a level of disrespect, but it isn’t like saying someone’s wife taste like honey nut cheerios. It isn’t to be taking personally and definitely not discussed publicly.
LeBron was offended by Draymond’s trash talk and did bring it up publicly. Here is how it went down according to The Undefeated.
According to sources, Green looked James dead in the face and called him a “b—-.”
One NBA player in earshot of the trash-talk told The Undefeated that James responded by saying that he was the father of three kids and a man.
Green responded back, according to the player, by saying: “You’re still a b—-.”
Here is the thing, Draymond said it to his face and didn’t back down from it. LeBron was offended which is his right, but talking about to the media, I can’t agree with that. That is a man to man thing, don’t let the media fight your battles for you.
Draymond wasn’t suspended because he called LeBron a bitch, but because he can’t stop kicking and hitting people, but you do get the feeling LeBron has lost a little respect for how he handled the situation, but I am sure he just cares about winning Game 5 more.
