Sports reporters aren’t normally in danger but they are in Russia.
Two men have been detained in Moscow on suspicion of robbing a British reporter who is in the Russian capital to cover the World Cup, Russia’s Interior Ministry has confirmed.
Russian news agency TASS reported that the journalist was working for the BBC and lost consciousness after drinking a drugged cup of coffee early on Friday morning and awoke to find his belongings had been stolen.
“As a result of the search operation, a suspect in the robbery of a British national has been detained,” Irina Volk, spokeswoman for the Russian Interior Ministry, said on Saturday. “Yesterday, the British national reported to the police that he had been robbed in a taxi.
“As a result of the search operation, officers of the criminal police found the car which the man had taken and one of the suspects had been detained. He is now being questioned.”
