Cops need to respect people’s space.
Bates was calm about the situation until the cop got up in his face. He is lucky he didn’t get shot though.
Trevor Bates, a backup player for the Lions squad, was being booked for refusing to pay his cab fare at the 115th Precinct stationhouse in Jackson Heights when he suddenly refused to be fingerprinted around 4 a.m., cops said.
Then he said he didn’t like a sergeant standing nearby and punched the officer in the face, authorities said.Cops subdued the 6-foot-2, 240-pound Bates and took him to Elmhurst Hospital, where he was to have a psychiatric evaluation.
Bates, 25, was calm when he was picked up an hour earlier when he allegedly refused to pay his livery cabbie outside the Hampton Inn Hotel on Ditmars Blvd. near 27th Ave.
I’d probably be mad too if I was staying at Hampton Inn.
Apparently, Bates claim the cop was trash talking him when he told him to back up, when he didn’t he punched cop dead in the face.
