After the shooting, a 52-year-old man named Otis Lee Anderson was booked into Duval County Jail on Tuesday morning and charged with second-degree murder, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office records showed.
When police arrived they found the man and woman had both been shot. The man died at the hospital.
The woman who was shot was Otis Anderson Jr’s mother.
Football fans woke up to tragic news this morning when they learned that running back Otis Anderson Jr. was shot and killed by his father. His mother, Denise, was also shot.
The primary suspect in the case is Anderson’s father, Otis Lee Anderson Senior. He was arrested around 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning and charged with two counts of second-degree murder.
A court hearing will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. Current information reveals that Anderson Sr., aged 52, is not eligible for bond. Descriptions for both charges read that he is being charged for “Murder / Dangerous act evincing a depraved mind w/o premed,” which means authorities do not believe that either murder was premeditated at this time.
What would cause a man to shoot his son and the mother of his child.
We now have some answers.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, Denise Anderson told police her husband, Otis Lee Anderson Sr., was bitten by their son’s girlfriend’s dog. She said it made Anderson Sr. upset, and that when their son, Anderson Jr., came downstairs to see what happened, an argument started.
Denise Anderson told police Anderson Jr. was told to go back upstairs and that she and Anderson Sr. continued an argument. She said her husband flipped the downstairs recliner, which led to her son coming back downstairs.
Denise Anderson told investigators her son and husband got into another argument and looked as though they were going to fight. She said they separated, but Anderson Jr. and Sr. then met back inside the kitchen.
The next part of the police report is redacted, but it notes Anderson Jr. appeared to have been shot in his chest and back.
