Early in the first quarter of the Titans game against the Colts, Henry injured his foot.
He continued to play and racked up 28 carries on a broken foot. Those are the things legends are made of. We will never know if continuing to play in the game caused more damage, but now the Titans are rightfully in panic mode because Henry is the main cog of their offense. With him out, they still have playmakers but will have to rely more on Ryan Tannehill, and that is an iffy bet.
Here is what we know about the injury so far.
Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry suffered a potentially season-ending foot injury during Sunday’s 34-31 win over the Indianapolis Colts, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The Titans are concerned that Henry has a Jones fracture, which would require season-ending surgery, according to a source.
On Sunday, Henry rushed 28 times for 68 yards and a 2.4-yard average that was his lowest this season, playing 54 of the 73 offensive snaps. He appeared to receive medical attention on his right foot toward the end of the second half but promptly returned to the field.
Adrian Peterson will work out with the Titans, but while AP is one of the all-time greats, he is nowhere near his prime and isn’t even close to Henry’s statute at this point in his career. The Titans might be best served just sticking with their in-house options of Jeremy McNichols and Dontrell Hilliard on the roster.
The good news for the Titans is they are 6-2 and led the AFC standings at the moment. They don’t have to worry about the Texans or Jags in the division. They have beaten the Colts twice already and have a four-game lead in the division essentially because of it.
I think they still make the playoffs and then will have to pray that Henry is healthy enough to come back.
