It is always your own city or state that you have to watch out for.
Robert Easter Jr. is from Toledo, OH, and always represents the state in his fights. How do they repay him?
With three bullets.
Toledo boxer Robert Easter Jr. is undergoing surgery at a Cincinnati hospital after he was robbed and shot multiple times Sunday night.
His father, Robert Easter Sr., confirmed the news to WTOL 11 Monday morning. He said the former IBF lightweight champion was shot three times after he was confronted about 6:30 p.m. by a group of men who demanded money. Easter is in surgery to remove bullet fragments, but is expected to survive. WTOL 11 has requested a police report from Cincinnati police.
Easter, 31, graduated from Bowsher High School. He was named an alternate on the 2012 U.S. Olympic boxing team. He won the IBF lightweight championship in 2016 and held it until 2018.
Thankfully, he will survive, and hopefully, the cops will catch whoever did this.
So, much violence is happening in our country. You can’t even just be casually walking around at 6:30 pm without having to worry about being shot.
Easter last fought in February of 2021, where he scored a unanimous decision win over Ryan Martin.
He only has one loss on his record to Mikey Garcia and a draw with Rances Barthelemy. Easter was looking to get back into the ring sometime this spring with a high-profile opponent, but that has been put on hold while he recovers from the gunshot wounds.
No word if those injuries will force him to retire from boxing or something that he can recover from. He is still a relatively young man in the sport at the age of 31 and had some good years ahead of him.
Please be safe out there.
