Janerika grew up in Memphis, Tennessee.
She made the move to Atlanta, Georgia in 2018 and told VoyageATL in 2019 that the city “has a lot of opportunities and it’s been my dream to move there since I was younger.”
Janerika studied at the University of Georgia from 2018 to 2022.
She graduated in the latter year with a bachelor’s degree in sports journalism.
Since her college days, Owens has been a college football reporter for the Georgia Bulldogs.
She’s also an intern for the Atlanta Hawks.
