Tyron Smith of the Cowboys to Return for a 14th Season Quashing Retirement Rumors

Tyron Smith, an eight-time Pro Bowl left tackle, hopes to play for the Cowboys for a record 14 seasons in 2024 and has no intention of retiring, according to the Dallas Morning News. In March, Smith, 33, is expected to become a free agent.

Since Dallas selected Smith ninth overall in the 2011 draft, he has started in all 161 games, including 13 in 2023.
Going back to the Cowboys is not a given.

Due to injuries, Smith hasn’t played a full season since 2015. In 2022, Tyler Smith, Smith’s presumed successor, was selected by Dallas in the first round.

During his news conference that ended the season last month, head coach Mike McCarthy discussed the veteran lineman’s predicament. McCarthy said,

“I think the biggest thing for Tyron is, talking about the path of the season and the training plan that was in place for him, this is clearly his best season that I have experienced with him since 2020,” “So, he felt good about that. I think the fact that he’s not going into the offseason with offseason surgeries is a plus. We’ll continue to talk as we move forward.”
