In response to a question regarding the Celtics supporters’ constant jeering of Kyrie Irving, Jaylen Brown issued a challenge.
Celtics fans booed Kyrie Irving nonstop from the time he emerged from the tunnel for pregame warm-ups until he left the TD Garden court following a 28-point defeat.
It feels like he’ll get the same treatment every time he enters the building after pledging to stay, playing a major part in crushing Boston’s 2018–19 season, a year in which, as Gordon Hayward expressed on Podcast P with Paul George, players “had too many agendas,” arranging a move to Brooklyn with Kevin Durant, and stomping on the Lucky the leprechaun logo at halfcourt. In one commercial, Irving stated that he wanted his phone number to be dangling from the ceiling.
Kyrie Irving speaks about the crowd booing him
The three-time All-NBA guard discussed his feelings about the support he receives back in Boston after the Celtics defeated the Dallas Mavericks 138-110 on Friday, resulting in his tenth consecutive loss. Irving said,
“They have a right to boo,” “From my career record against them in the last few games, I haven’t won. So, until I beat them, they have all the right to continue to boo. I think that’s what makes the theatrics of sports and competitive sports fun; (I’ve) just gotta embrace it. It’s part of it.”.
Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum were also questioned over the treatment the eight-time All-Star receives from Celtics supporters. Tatum said,
“I feel like it’s just kind of been like that ever since he left,” “Obviously, we all know what happened, but that was a while ago,” “I have a great relationship with him. A few of us that are still here that played with him have a great relationship with him. We’ve all moved on from it. But you can understand that the fans are passionate and things like that. So, I guess that is to be expected, but none of the players have any animosity towards Kai or anything like that.”
With his 25 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists, Jaylen Brown put the TD Garden crowd to the test. Brown said,
“The fans, they do what they do,” “They’ve got whatever reason for that. I think (that) we should probably boo every player, every star player that comes in(to) our arena; I would like to see that. Maybe it has an effect, maybe it doesn’t, but (Nikola) Jokic and all these other players come in here, boo them too.”
