After you set the computer’s level to rookie, the following stat lines from the Denver Nuggets‘ 110-105 victory over the San Antonio Spurs may look like they are from an NBA 2K game, but they are real. We swear.
In the defeat, Victor Wembanyama—who is currently a lock to win Rookie of the Year—scored 23 points, grabbed 15 rebounds, blocked nine shots—yes, nine!—posted eight assists, and committed a steal.

With 42 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal, Nikola Jokić—who appears increasingly likely to win a third MVP title in the previous four seasons—led his side to victory.
MAKE THAT 40 FOR THE JOKER.

The Talent on display is unreal now at NBA
It’s simple to grow indifferent to the sheer amount of talent and skill in the modern NBA. Joel Embiid is a 7’2″ center that can run the floor, defend the rim, assist teammates, and make shots at all three levels.
In a horse race, Luka Dončić makes shots that you would never even try. In just five steps, Giannis Antetokounmpo can sprint the whole length of the court. Even at forty, LeBron James is still a dominant player in the NBA. At 36 years old, Stephen Curry is still banging out threes and screaming around screens. Too many young stars are rising to be named.
But sometimes it’s necessary to take a step back and consider everything. Sometimes, all you need to do is pause and show gratitude.
