The Dallas Mavericks and Luka Doncic had a difficult journey to the NBA Finals. The Mavericks ultimately fell short against the Boston Celtics in five games, despite defeating some of the top teams in the Western Conference. While many acknowledge Dallas’s victory and applaud Boston’s victory, this former Golden State Warriors champion was more excited about Doncic’s defeat.
Nick Young has joined Gil’s Arena, the podcast hosted by his former colleague Gilbert Arenas. Young rejoiced about the Boston Celtics’ NBA championship while appearing on the show. Swaggy P was happier that Doncic, a non-American, did not win a championship, nevertheless.
“Let’s give it up for America. Because we won baby. America won baby. Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown did it for America. They put Luka a**out. Oh my god. I got so tired of everybody talking about these foreigners and sh*t. America is here baby. It’s America’s league baby. It’s America’s league. I hope y’all see it. Tatum here. Motherf**king Brown.”

According to Nick Young’s remarks on Gil’s Arena, he was more pleased that an NBA title was not won by a non-American or “foreigner.”
Nick Young didn’t want a non-american Luka Doncic winning
While he did promote Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, his real excitement stemmed from the fact that an American-led team took home the championship.
The NBA has always claimed to have the finest players in the world, given that it is an American league. The league has advanced by holding some preseason games abroad in addition to having players from various countries.
The NBA has long supported international athletes joining the league to face the greatest players in the world. Nick Young, though, doesn’t seem to be entirely in favor of foreign players winning NBA championships.
However, in spite of Young’s remarks, the number of players entering the NBA from abroad has increased. Furthermore, one could argue that the league’s best three or five players weren’t even born in the United States.
Luka Doncic, Nikola Jokić, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander were the front-runners in the MVP competition of the previous year. Had Giannis Antetokounmpo not sustained injuries this season, he too would have been a factor in the conversation.
