Shohei Ohtani, the top player from Japan, has been very impressive lately. In the 2024 season, he has essentially been hitting every week. He has been hitting home runs against the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are playing in Dodger Stadium versus his former team, the Los Angeles Angels.
Shohei Ohtani hit a 455-foot home run off starter Matt Moore on Friday, but the Dodgers lost 3-2 in 10 innings despite that. According to Statcast, Ohtani’s hit occurred at 113.1 miles per hour, signaling the beginning of something remarkable.
The pattern persisted on Saturday when he repeated it. Ohtani hit a moonshot home run on a two balls and no strikes count with a runner on and a run already in for the Dodgers, making history in the Major League Baseball record books once more.

Two nights in a row of big home runs for Shohei Ohtani
The big story was that it was a 459-foot blast, and for consecutive games he has gotten 450+ foot dingers, to go to 23 in the year on a personal note, but historic exploits continue. The Dodgers lead the Angels early in the game, 3 runs to 0.
Following the two nights in which huge home runs were hit, word spread that no one else had even hit multiple home runs over 450 feet at Dodger Stadium during the Statcast era, which began in 2015.
He said to reporters prior to Friday’s game that it wouldn’t be particularly emotional to play at Dodger Stadium against his former teammates from the Angels. That is something he will encounter later in the season when he plays them in Anaheim, but in terms of creating history, it was a really memorable night all around, so that will be something to remember.
