The Buffalo Bills lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs earlier this year for the third time in the Josh Allen era. Although some criticism was expected, a nameless NFL executive adopted a tough stance, labeling Allen as one of the league’s most “overrated” players. Additionally, the executive told ESPN that Allen is more of a thrower than a precise passer and that he cannot win at the line of scrimmage. But, the general manager of the Bills isn’t having it.
GM Brandon Beane spoke to the media after training camp on Wednesday, jumping to Allen’s defense. He was upset that after the star quarterback’s six years in the NFL, critics still couldn’t seem to give him a break.
GM Beane talks about Josh Allen
Additionally, GM Beane stressed that, considering Allen’s accomplishments in Buffalo, he would rank him as “underrated” if he were to grade his quarterback.
“You try to ignore this stuff, but Josh is going into Year 7 and there’s still the naysayers. I don’t get it. If I was going to use rated, I would say underrated before I would say overrated.”
Beane did confess to having a soft spot for his quarterback, referring to him as “our guy” and saying that he “loves him every single day.” He did, however, express his displeasure that a person who won’t even provide their identity can criticize a franchise quarterback, undermining the legitimacy and credibility of their position. Here are a few comments by fans praising Beane :
mad respect for that 🙌

People can say what they want about Josh can love him or hate him but this is what he means to his team. They all would all run into a burning building for him…Beane is backing up his guy even if it means shooting from the hip.

Aside from the fan sentiment and GM Beane’s remarks, it’s important to note that the pressure will be on Allen and the coaching lounge to deliver this season. But the bigger question is: can they?
