Records reveal that the driver of the vehicle in the collision that claimed the lives of an NFL rookie Khyree Jackson and his two companions early on Saturday morning had committed two more startling speeding violations.
Police confirmed to The U.S. Sun that Cori Clingman, 23, struck the car containing rookie cornerback Kyree Jackson of the Minnesota Vikings while attempting to change lanes quickly. Before coming to a stop, the vehicle apparently drove off the road and struck multiple tree trunks.
Both Jackson, 24, and Isaiah Hazel, 23, his high school teammate who was operating the Charger they were traveling in, were declared deceased at the spot.
Khyree Jackson a victim of speeding?
Anthony Lytton Jr., a 24-year-old former teammate, was taken to the University of Maryland Capital Region Medical Center and later declared deceased. Police said in a statement that Clingman was the cause of the collision.
Additionally, they claim that alcohol might have had a role in the collision. Clingman is not indicted while the investigation is ongoing. However, according to documents obtained by The U.S. Sun, the 23-year-old has received two speeding fines for going over the 55 mph speed limit, including one instance in which she was allegedly going twice the limit.
In 2018, Clingman was first observed traveling at 69 mph in a 55 mph zone. Police caught Clingman speeding at 100 mph through a 55 mph zone in 2020.
In the collision on Saturday, Clingman, the two occupants of her vehicle, and the driver of a third Impala were unharmed. At Dr. Henry Wise Jr. High School, Jackson, Hazel, and Lytton all played football together, according to Oregon Live.
Jackson progressed through the football ranks, playing cornerback for the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Oregon Ducks. The Minnesota Vikings selected the cornerback in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft.
