The Relationship Between Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni Is “Still a Work in Progress,” According to NFL Insider

Jalen Hurts, the quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, and head coach Nick Sirianni are apparently still trying to come to an agreement.

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini claims that Hurts and Sirianni’s relationship is “still a work in progress”.

Hurts is more reserved than Sirianni, who is fiery and emotional, according to Russini, and this caused a “disconnect” between them at times during the previous season.

Hurts was selected as the team’s starting quarterback after he started four games during the end of his rookie campaign in 2020. Sirianni took over as the team’s new head coach in 2021 after Doug Pederson was fired.

Jalen Hurts’s performance for Eagles so far

After making it to the playoffs in 2021 as a wild-card team, Philadelphia made significant progress in the following campaign. This was mostly due to Hurts’ performance, who ran for 760 yards and 13 touchdowns in addition to completing 66.5 percent of his passes for 3,701 yards, 22 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

Hurts was second in the NFL MVP vote as a result, and he was chosen a Pro Bowler and Second Team All-Pro. With a 14-3 record, Philadelphia qualified for the playoffs as the top seed in the NFC and advanced all the way to the Super Bowl, where it was defeated by the Kansas City Chiefs in an exciting back-and-forth game.

Last season, both the club and Hurts took a step back. He ran for 605 yards and 15 touchdowns while completing 65.4% of his passes for 3,858 yards, 23 touchdowns, and a career-high 15 picks. Philadelphia lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round of the playoffs after finishing with an 11-6 record.

The Eagles had a 10-1 start to the season before losing five of their last six games, falling to the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East, and losing badly to them 32-9 in the postseason.

Hurts signed a five-year, $255 million deal extension with the Eagles last year, demonstrating their long-term commitment to him. As such, Sirianni will probably bear the brunt of any mistakes made in 2024, and if the Eagles don’t turn things around, it might cost him his job.
