Before Bronny James ever set foot on an NBA court, it seemed as though his story had already been written. His performances in the Summer League did little to improve his standing with the fans, who thought he was not even worthy of the 55th choice in the draft.
Media outlets began referring to the 19-year-old as a “nepo-baby” and spreading rumors that Bronny only made the league because of his father. For the rookie Lakers player, it has become worse after comedian Andrew Schulz made his most recent claim.
Is Andrew Schulz right about Bronny James ?
Schulz said on his program FLAGRANT that if he were Bronny, he would take the financial advantages of this decision. Ultimately, playing alongside LeBron James will establish them as the inaugural father-son team in the NBA. He said,
“If I’m Bronny, I go, ‘Guys, this is a financial decision. There are people that really wanna see us playing the game together. It’s gonna get so many clips, even if it’s for 30 seconds, it’s gonna blow things up… So, they’re probably gonna give me the league minimum for a second-round rookie and they’re gonna make $20 million off of that’”.

It is difficult to ignore these comments given how severe they are. For instance, Bronny‘s rookie college season stats of 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game in 25 appearances fail to support his NBA selection. This further raised questions by highlighting James’ role in the young player’s league debut.
However, by taking a bet on Bronny, the Lakers stood to gain everything and lose nothing. On the one hand, it’s uncommon for an NBA player selected in the second round to have exceptional success. However, having the 19-year-old on the team allowed the team to keep its best player while creating the possibility of long-term financial success.
