More alarming information regarding Micah Parsons‘ contract has shocked the Dallas Cowboys. The linebacker asked for a trade earlier this month, so his future is still uncertain. Jerry Jones, the general manager of the Cowboys, has been slow to extend Parsons’ contract.
The 26-year-old Parsons will make $24 million in the fifth year of his rookie contract. In order to prolong his stay in Texas, the four-time Pro Bowl player is requesting a $200 million contract.
He would become the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history with a five-year contract of that magnitude.
However, as the Cowboys drag their heels, it looks like there won’t be a conclusion anytime soon. According to Todd Archer of ESPN, Parsons has not been wearing his practice jersey, which may be a sign of how he is feeling right now.
He wrote: “At the start of camp, Parsons said he was dealing with back tightness, and last week he was getting treatment.
“It was notable when he did not wear his practice jersey after making the trade request.”
“That’s as big of an indicator as you’re going to get in these hold-in situations.
“There have been no substantive discussions from the two sides at all, and it appears the Cowboys are at least willing to open the season with Parsons playing on the fifth-year option.”
“After that? There is always the possibility of using the franchise tag on Parsons in 2026.”
As he has participated in the team’s training camp and minicamp this summer, Parsons has so far acted honorably. Jones, 82, has had to handle similar requests for fresh contracts from athletes. CeeDee Lamb just signed a $136 million contract extension, extending his employment for an additional four years.
