Saints Hand the Keys to Tyler Shough After Spencer Rattler’s Rough Ride

The New Orleans Saints are handing the offense to rookie quarterback Tyler Shough this week against the Los Angeles Rams. Coach Kellen Moore made the switch after Spencer Rattler’s rough start continued in last week’s 23–3 loss to Tampa Bay.

Rattler threw two costly interceptions and failed to move the offense past midfield in the second half. Moore decided it was time for change.

Shough, drafted 40th overall this year, saw limited action last week after Rattler’s benching. He completed 17 of 30 passes for 128 yards and one interception, hardly electric, but enough to earn another shot. Despite being 26-years old, the Saints hope his poise and quick release can revive a stagnant unit that ranks near the bottom of the league in scoring.

The move also gives the team a chance to evaluate Shough’s long-term potential.

Facing the Rams’ aggressive defense won’t be easy, yet New Orleans believes Shough can handle the challenge. With their season slipping away, the Saints are betting that new energy under center can keep hope alive. The game is on Sunday at 4:05 p.m. ET.
