In the College Football Playoff rankings revealed on Tuesday, Oregon surpassed Ole Miss following its victory over USC, but Ohio State, Indiana, Texas A&M, Georgia, and Texas Tech maintained the top five teams.
The sole change to the top 10 from a week ago is that Ole Miss is now ranked seventh and the Ducks are ranked sixth. Oklahoma is still ranked eighth, with Notre Dame coming in at number nine, Alabama at number ten, and BYU at number eleven.
The selecting committee chair, Hunter Yurachek, spoke of Oregon:
“We’ve been waiting for them to have that signature win to really put them where they need to be,”
After a 51-47 comeback victory over 5-6 Kansas State, Miami surpassed Utah to No. 12, while the Utes fell to No. 13. The Hurricanes, who are vying for an at-large spot, are still three spots behind in the standings despite their head-to-head victory over the Irish. Michigan climbed three spots to No. 15, while Vanderbilt remained at No. 14.
According to Yurachek, Miami and Notre Dame were in the same pool as Alabama and one-loss BYU and were close enough in the rankings this week to be compared head-to-head.
However, Yurachek says the committee believes Notre Dame “is a complete team” and “deserves to be ranked where they are.”
