Social media users claimed Wednesday to have identified a possible burner X account used by New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel, sparking a fresh wave of speculation in the ongoing controversy surrounding his reported relationship with former NFL reporter Dianna Russini. The account, @mike_masters199, which had been aggressively defending Vrabel online, was deleted shortly after the claims gained traction, though no definitive proof has linked it to the coach.

The speculation emerged as leaks and photos continued to fuel public scrutiny of Vrabel and Russini, both married to other people at the time of the reported interactions. The saga began in early April 2026 when Page Six published images of the pair holding hands and embracing at a luxury resort in Sedona, Arizona. Subsequent reports included photos of them kissing at a New York City bar in 2020 and details of a private boat rental in Tennessee in 2021. Russini resigned from The Athletic following an internal review, and Vrabel addressed the matter publicly, saying he had “difficult conversations” with his family and sought counseling. The NFL has said it will not investigate under its personal conduct policy.

Users on X pointed to @mike_masters199 — created in May 2022 with a username change in December 2025 — as the alleged burner because of its pattern of nonstop defense of Vrabel and the Patriots throughout the scandal. Screenshots shared widely showed the account replying to critics with statements such as, “Ridiculous, every coach in the league will face the same wrath. Your going to take another’s team coach for an off field personal thing? They’ll come after yours next.” It also responded to a TMZ report about the boat rental with a blunt “F*ck off.”

Further posts from the account alluded to undisclosed “dirt” on Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and broader NFL corruption, claiming the league was “filled with horrible people who are owned by Freemasons.” One widely shared screenshot suggested inside knowledge of league matters.

The account was deleted hours after prominent X accounts, including NFL reporter Dov Kleiman, highlighted it. Kleiman posted screenshots and wrote, “This is insane 🫣 Vrabel’s alleged burner account @mike_masters199. The story never ends.”

Twitter (X) Reactions Exploded

The discovery triggered a flood of reactions across the platform. Football Forever (@fballforeverhq) posted: “BREAKING: NFL fans have reportedly discovered Patriots HC Mike Vrabel’s burner account on X, Mike Masters, an account that has been defending Vrabel and the Patriots nonstop during the Dianna Russini scandal 🚨 After it gained traction, the account has now been deleted 🤔”

Behold A Pale Horse (@BeholdPaleH0rse), whose post helped amplify the claims, wrote: “Mike Vrabel’s burner account (@mike_masters199) appears to allude the fact that that there is dirt on Patrick Mahomes, and the entire league is corrupt.” The account later noted its deletion.

Skepticism was widespread. One user replied to Kleiman: “Only a retard thinks that’s actually Vrabel.” Another quipped, “we believe anything?” while some joked about the timing or called for the Patriots to address it.

Evidence Remains Circumstantial

While the account’s focus on Vrabel and use of the name “Mike Masters” fueled speculation, analysts noted counter-evidence. Pre-scandal tweets from @mike_masters199 were posted during live Patriots games when Vrabel would have been on the sidelines as coach. Examples include complaints about referees during an October 2025 game against the New Orleans Saints and criticism of rookie quarterback Drake Maye during Super Bowl coverage in February 2026.

A Whiskey Riff report highlighted these game-day posts as “a big clue that it’s probably not him,” arguing a head coach would be unlikely to tweet in real time from the field.

Patriots officials and Vrabel’s representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The NFL declined to address the social media claims.

The episode underscores how quickly unverified social media sleuthing can intensify scrutiny around high-profile NFL figures. As of Wednesday evening, no confirmed evidence has emerged tying the deleted account directly to Vrabel.
